I was absolutely thrilled to receive the award for Best Composer at Underwire Film Festival on Saturday night at Genesis Cinema.
"The soundtrack captured the story and matched the visuals in such an ideal way. The music entwines the dialogue, evoking mental images of its own, but still fitting within the complete film without totally over powering it with music - a very good balance. This music of emotional movement alongside the storyline, whilst enhancing it also supported totally the sometimes complex narrative, thereby an equal musical journey, both emotional, atmospheric and approached with sensitivity throughout. A very good score."
Underwire is the UK’s only film festival celebrating female filmmaking talent across the crafts. Now in its seventh year, Underwire has become a BAFTA recognised festival working with some of the best independent cinemas in London, including Genesis Cinema, BFI Southbank, ArtHouse Crouch End and Barbican.
On Sunday all the winning films were screened again at BFI Southbank and I took part in a Q&A afterwards - all in all a very inspiring experience. Thanks so much to Underwire, the Musicians Union, Jake Graf and all the cast and crew of Dawn.
